| Die Erforschung der
südostasiatischen Fauna hat eine lange Tradition und wird auch heute noch intensiv von
einer Vielzahl von Amateurwissenschaftlern und Berufszoologen vorangetrieben. Oft jedoch
handelt es sich um unkoordinierte und dadurch wenig effektive Einzelprojekte, die schnell
an ihre Grenzen stoßen. Ein wichtiges Ziel der Zoological Society Wallacea (ZSW)
wird es sein, durch einen besseren Informationsaustausch die Effektivität der Erforschung
der Biodiversität südostasiatischer Lebensräume auf allen Ebenen zu erhöhen. Eine
große Bedeutung kommt dabei u.a. der besseren Einbindung von Amateurwissenschaftlern, die
immer schon einen wichtigen Beitrag bei der Erforschung der südostasiatischen Fauna
geleistet haben, in laufende Projekte zu. |
Research on the South East Asian fauna has a long tradition that is still continued today by a large number of amateur as well as professional zoologists. However, much of this research is of only limited impact because it is carried out in isolation, not as part of a cooperative network. Therefore, an important aim of the Zoological Society Wallacea (ZSW) will be to increase the exchange of information between scientists to optimize the effectiveness of biodiversity research dealing with South East Asian habitats. Of special importance will be increased involvement of amateur zoologists, a group that has made substantial contributions since the beginning of research on the South East Asian fauna, in starting and running projects. |
IIm einzelnen verfolgt die Zoological Society Wallacea folgende Ziele: · Zusammenschluss aller in der Region Südostasien tätigen Zoologen · Sammeln von Informationen über in Südostasien laufende Forschungsprojekte · Aufbau von Datenbanken zur Erfassung von relevanten Literaturquellen sowie taxonspezifischer Informationen (Verbreitungs-, Futterpflanzenangaben etc.) · EDV-technische Erfassung vorhandener Sammlungsbestände sowie von Informationen über den Verbleib von relevantem Typenmaterial · Kooperation mit Museen, Institutionen und Universitäten der entsprechenden Länder · Beratung und Unterstützung von Institutionen in südostasiatischen Ländern beim Aufbau von Referenzsammlungen · Erstellung von Checklisten verschiedener Tiergruppen für unterschiedliche geographische Einheiten durch einzelne Arbeitsgruppen/Bearbeiter |
The Zoological Society Wallacea pursues the following goals: · to unite zoologists working on topics related to the South East Asian region · to collect information on current research projects dealing with the South East Asian region · to establish databases for all relevant literature sources as well as taxon-specific information (distributional data, food plant records, etc.) · to develop databases for available reference and museum collections as well as relevant type material · to establish cooperation with museums, universities and other institutions in South East Asian countries · to advise and support institutions in South East Asian countries regarding the establishment of reference collections · to compile checklists of animal taxa for various geographical regions
