Biographic data

I am a postdoctoral researcher at the ZSM.

For the entire career working on various aspects of taxonomy, larval morphology and ecology of weevils. Larval trophic ecology, requirements and preferences for different plant parts (root, stem, leaves, flower, seed) by adults and larvae, temperature dependent development and host-parasitioid relationship were in focus.

Research Interests

  • Cladistic analysis of the tribe Hyperini (Coleoptera: Curculionidae; Hyperinae).Hypera alternans
  • Taxonomy, biology and biogeography of weevils of the tribe Hyperini. Focus on Palearctic region. Tools include traditional taxonomy and morphology, including larval.hypera

Aims

  • The main intention my project is to analyze the relationships of Hyperini genera using cladistic analysis of external morphological characters of adults and larvae.
  • Larval and adults characters will consolidate the phylogenetic position of the genera.
  • Major clades within the tribe Hyperini will be identified and justified scientifically.
  • Several genera (e.g. Phaeopholus, Herpes) are possibly not as closely related with other genera within tribe Hyperini as previosuly thought, I will most likely exclude them and seek to assign them to clades where they belong based on cladistic character evaluation.

  • Predictive model of host specificity in pre-dispersal seed predators - step to successful biocontrol
  • Plant-insect food webs in a lowland forest: a temperate-tropical comparison
  • Effect of temperature and photoperiod on the development of immature stages of the weevils and its usability for applied entomology
