Biographic data

I am a postdoctoral researcher at the ZSM.

After studying in detail Pyrenean radiation of subterranean Trechini (2004-2009) I am now focusing on alpine diversification of the tribe, in order to explain subterranean evolutions and modalities of diversification in subterranean environments.

Research Interests

Subterranean evolution and phylogeny of Coleoptera with emphasis on Carabidae of the tribe Trechini.

Taxonomy, evolution and biogeography of hypogean Coleoptera (mainly Carabidae Trechini). Focus on west Palearctic area, especially Pyrenean and Alpine massifs. Tools include traditional taxonomy and molecular phylogenetics.

Aims

  1. to test the monophyly of the "Aphaenops lineage", which include Pyrenean troglobitic fauna together with other highly specialized genera, especially from the Alps, and is based on morphological assumptions and to place the endemic alpine genera in a comprehensive phylogeny.
  2. to compare the evolution of the morphological changes followed by subterranean Trechini in the Pyrenees and the Alps, in order to test the degree of canalization of subterranean evolution inside the karst.

The reconstruction of the phylogeny of Alpine Trechini should allow to place the enigmatic ultra-specialized subterranean genera in the phylogeny of west-Palaearctic Trechini, to compare the modalities of subterranean diversifications among the Pyrenean and the Alps, underlining the specific differences of each radiation but above all pointing to the similarities in the Subterranean Evolution, including testing the impact of paleogeographical and paleoclimatical events, often considered to be leading factors to the speciation and the subterranean migration.
