- Morphology and Phylogeny of Hydradephaga (Coleoptera) Functional morphology and evolution of structures and organs in aquatic insects especially wings and gills in basic Pterygota

- Maintenance of an information center for freshwater Crustacea : Anostraca, Notostraca, Conchostraca (catalogue together with M. Engelmann)
- Studies in the colonisation of temporary pools by insects and cystobiont crayfishes in the tropic areas (rainforests), deserts and the temperate areas
- Collection of aquatic insects and other invertebrates especially drangonflies and damselflies of the area of the biological ward Panguana in Peru (together with L. Börzsöny)
- Evaluation of alternative methods for the conventional pest control in- and outdoors with documentation of invasion strategies of pest species
- Collaboration with the "Landesamt für Umweltschutz": Dragonflies and damselflies of Bavaria
- Recording and evaluation of the fauna of limnic habitats with special remarks on the population of Mosquitoes (Culicidae) – accompanying studies and report in the application of B.t.i. against mosquitoes
- Work out draft papers for nature conservation and species conservation acts in cooperation with nature conservation associations, the "Verein Deutscher Biologen" (VDBiol) and ministeries
- Developping species diversity teaching programmes as part of the basic biology courses at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universtiät Munich
- Monitoring of freshwater insects of the southern part of Bavaria, especially bogs, swamps - Murnauer Moos (1978-1982, see Entomofauna Suppl. 1) continued until 1998 together with H. Burmeister (“Faunistische Erfassung aquatischer Makroinvertebraten im Murnauer Moos und den Mooren westlich des Staffelsees” in cooperation with Wildbiologische Gesellschaft München, Landratsamt Garmisch-Patenkirchen and the Bundesamt für Naturschutz Bonn (1993-1997)), the “Wildmoos” (Lkr. FFB, fnished), the “Osterseen” (1982-1984 – Ber. ANL 1984, finished), research institute of marshland Obergrashof - Dachau (“Wissenschaftliche Begleituntersuchungen zum Erfassungs- und Pflegekonzept Versuchsgut Obergrashof und des Moorversuchsgutes Oberschleißheim” together with A. Hausmann and H. Burmeister in cooperation with the adminstration of Munich and the ‘Bayerischen Landesanstalt für Bodenkultur und Pflanzenbbau, 1989-1997)
